program overview
Strategic Management is no longer a novel term for Iranian managers and management consultants. Today, every medium to large-sized company in Iran deals with a vast number of documents for strategic planning. Despite this fact, can we really say that Iranian organizations are strategy-driven? Do we see strategies inspiring our people, in the spirit of our organizations? Are we good enough at implementing and executing these strategies?
What are the main barriers we are faced with when it comes to strategic thinking:
- resistance to change;
- leadership difficulties, especially in developing countries which have a changing environment and are more human-based than system-based;
- struggles related to political issues and conflicts of interest.
This program will draw from the the broad insight of a well-known strategic management scholar who has participated in many international programs of HEC Montréal, and has conducted consulting mandates for companies and governments in Canada, the United States and some developing countries in Asia and Africa. He also knows our country very well to light up our understanding of strategic management, especially in the situation of complexity.
This program is divided into four main parts. Each part introduces participants to a critical topic or issue related to strategic management. We shall develop knowledge and skills in formulating a strategy to make a common understanding and then discuss the key issues in implementing it. We will conclude with an important insight into strategy implementation in situations of complexity.
Main topics
Participants are expected to prepare ahead for each seminar by reading the cases used in class.
Here are the main topics which we are going to be discussed in this program:
1.Strategic Thinking as a Managerial Competency
2.Fundamentals: Environment, Resources and Strategy
3.Implementing Strategy
4.Complexity and Strategy Implementation
5.Managing Strategic Change
The discussion of each issue includes a conceptual introduction, and a case situation. Cases from various industries and countries will be used in this program.
Workshop Sessions in Persian
As specialists in international executive programs, we know that adding a component given in the local language helps create a better and more effective learning atmosphere for all participants; hence these workshops in Persian.
We would have a workshop session at each day of the seminar. Participants will be in small groups and discussions and exercises will be led by an Iranian coach in Persian.
